Starting an Untouched Colt – Akila’s First Training Steps

Welcome to Akila’s Training Series – a gentle start for an untouched colt.

This series follows the real-time journey of Akila, a one-year-old colt with almost no handling experience. Curious, sensitive, and full of instinct, Akila is learning what it feels like to engage with humans through trust, clarity, and emotional safety – not fear or force.

These early sessions focus on the most foundational parts of a young horse’s education: being approached calmly, accepting touch, learning boundaries, understanding basic pressure and release, and finding confidence in the human presence. Every moment is filmed in real time, capturing the raw, honest progression from uncertainty to willingness.

Akila didn’t start out confident. With limited exposure to people and no halter experience, even simple interactions felt big and overwhelming for him. His responses ranged from freeze to flight to a little bit of fight – all completely natural for a young, untouched horse trying to navigate the world. But underneath the defensiveness is a thoughtful, inquisitive colt who wants to connect once he understands the intention behind the pressure.

My role in his journey is to:

  • Help Akila develop emotional balance, softness, and curiosity
  • Introduce foundational handling skills with clarity, consistency, and compassion
  • Build trust through timing, pressure-and-release, and a calm leadership presence
  • Create a safe learning environment that prepares him for future training and a confident life as a ridden horse

These sessions aren’t about obedience or quick results. They’re about building a language before training begins – a language rooted in feel, timing, emotional awareness, and mutual trust. Every small try is celebrated. Every threshold is respected. Every session moves at Akila’s pace, not a timeline.

🎥 New episodes are added regularly as Akila continues learning.
✨ Follow along to witness how a young, untouched colt transforms through connection-based groundwork and calm, thoughtful leadership.
