Helping a Shutdown Horse
In this solo EquiTrain session without Freya, I spent time deeply observing and exploring where Sally is truly at. This session became a rich opportunity to gather data, reflect, and meet her honestly in the moment. What unfolded confirmed something I’ve been sensing: while confidence-building is still on the horizon, what Sally really needs right now is choice, agency, and a felt sense of safety.
🧭 In this episode, we explore:
- How rhythmic pressure can create boundaries without removing choice
- The complexity of leading with energy when a horse is braced or shut down
- Why pushing for confidence too soon can backfire in sensitive horses
- The difference between “compliance” and “connection”
Sally showed us again how critical it is to listen beyond behaviour and to see the subtle moments where trust is built or broken.
🎥 No quick fixes. No fancy edits. Just honest, real-time horse training exactly as it happens.

Trainer Confession: Why Mistakes Matter in Horsemanship
Raw and real. In this honest clip, I share the importance of leaving room for mistakes – both human and horse. When we let go of perfection, we open up space for learning, reflection, and deeper trust. A grounding message for all trainers and riders.
Understanding the Freeze Response in Horses: What It Means and How to Help
Does your horse stand still but feel “stuck”? This Equikinder clip breaks down the freeze response – a lesser-understood trauma behaviour. Watch as we work with Sally the Brumby to bring awareness to her shutdown signals and support her return to engagement.
Why Taking a Step Back in Training Can Move You Forward
Sometimes the most powerful progress in horse training comes from pressing pause. In this EquiKinder clip, I highlight a moment of intentional reset, showing how giving your horse space can re-regulate the nervous system and open the door to deeper connection.
